Phillip Roberts is a composer and performer with a penchant for music theory. The musical heritage of his home state, Virginia, lends an air of Americana to much of Roberts' music and his preference for driving rhythms and modal harmonies comes from his passion for funk and soul.
Roberts is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Miami University and a teacher on the faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts in summers.
He has fulfilled commissions for the Luray Main Street Singers, the University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the opening of the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts. As a pianist and organist, Roberts is an active recitalist, championing not only his own works but those of his fellow composers. He is a pianist for the Cincinnati Ballet and has toured the East Coast and United Kingdom as an accompanist for vocalists and choirs.
